I know Pete, and every time I look at the car I make a new list !, those of you following the thread will know I started off with a standard 1960 850 mini minor, that someone had started to 'rallyise' , and then stood for along time, pretty much all had to be replaced, reclaimed and renovated

So final spec is, from the top !

A series block, fresh bore, all new bearings, pumps, core plugs etc
1380 Omega Pistons on balanced A series rods and crank
mini spares 1:5 roller tip rockers
MED race 38/31 cylinder head
BK450 head gasket
Metro water pump (non by pass)
Mini spares Comp head studs and nuts
modified push rods
296 Kent cam
Vernier Duplex timing gear and cap head crank bolt
Mini spares ultra lightened flywheel and pressure plate with pre engaged starter
Orange cover and comp clutch
Roller bearing Straight cut drop gears 1:1
4 synchro remote type Straight cut close ratio gearbox with 3:9 twin pin diff
Centre oil pick
Aldon Red dizzy and matching sports coil
Hi performance super 2 core Radiator
Maniflow centre exhaust and manifold

Short motor, head and box sourced through the forum, :D , From a seasoned campaigner !, engine and box put together with all new nuts bolts gasket etc by Tot Dixon, local historic Mini rally competitor

Bit more work done today, painted odd and sods, bolted up engine mounts, fitted starter, dizzy, coil, oil pressure gauge hose, painted and fitted Morris emblem to rocker cover, all sorts of little jobs, and that took 4 hours , gonna leave the markings on plug caps and dizzy till it's running

Good few bits done over the weekend, pretty much got the wiring finished, bar the rev counter and a couple of switches, fitted the driveshafts, using pot joint inners, easier to fit and never broke one ... Yet ! , swoped back from the competition bump stops I had fitted on the front to normal bump stops on
Rich,s advice, to let the suspension breath , fitted drivers seat on
a modified seat frame due to my short arse !, My carbs arrived so got them mounted along with exhaust manifold, fitted alternator, tie bar and breather, main starter cable needs routing correctly along with oil pressure gauge pipe.

Having trouble with fitting radiator, might have to switch back to mark 1 two piece cowling as I have a grotty mk 3 one for a trail run and because I want to keep the cowling on the inner wing with the body number on it, it's not left me much room.
image.jpg

Fitted the headlamp rims, grille buttons and bonnet springs as well, bonnet needs lining up once I bolt up the hinges, now have all the glass bar the RH rear quarter, or I'll try and find 2 rear fixed ones.

So done about as much as I can in my garage, I'm going to use a pals garage ( my engine builder ) with a 4 poster lift and finish off the underneath, exhaust etc and see if we can get the car to burst into life In the next couple of weeks

Then mot time and try and get the documents finished off with the DVLA, who won't let my application continue until the car has an MOT, it won't be used on the road, apart from the odd ' test' but I need an mot and insurance to enter the 'Road car class' in Hillclimbs

Blyton 94 days to go !!

Good couple of days on the car, trailered it up to my pals to use his 4 poster lift,
image.jpg
all underneath sorted, was a little worried after the comments id heard on the maniflow manifolds and exhausts but it fitted well, remote built up and fitted, bit more modification required to the floor hole we cut

Radiator was hard work. Had to trim the inner wing cowl to make it fit nicely as I wanted to use a later stronger radiator cowling
image.jpg
Re wired the loom for the pre engaged starter and also purchased a higher power classic Lucas battery, turned the engine over a treat and for the first time it burst into life, like a new born baby !!
image.jpg
Fantastic feeling after exactly a year to the week since the shell was painted

Still quite abit of work to do, but got the screens fitted today, quite a bit of wiring to sort, heater to plumb up, tracking and then MOT in a couple of weeks

Happy to actually enter Blyton now !

Booked in for MOT next Monday :D , so had a day on it yesterday, i've gone for fixed side quarter windows, managed to modify some Mk3 seals and after an hour or so of huffing and puffing and plenty of washing up liquid, i managed to squeeze them in !

Also converted to electric washers, using a bottle with a motor and hiding it in the rear pockets, matching flick switch for the horn on the dashboard too, although i did buy some Lucas copy switches off ebay for the fuel pump and heater, came in nice boxes but .... they only lasted a day before they packed in !

Front tracked up fine, seem to have rather a lot of "toe in" on both sides on the rear, unless its a feature of early radius arms, so may need some adjustable rear radius arm brackets to sort.

Passenger side top door hinge has dropped already so i've one painted to go on, and voltage stabilizer to fit to sort my electric dials

so heater to plumb up and passenger side seat to bolt in and see how i get on with the MOT, then i can commence the adventure with the DVLA

Ready for MOT, one last push today ! , fitted original plates with cable ties , front one on grille because I will fablon my cherished KEC number once all sorted

Headlamp switch decided to give up so i found another in bottom of a jar !, fitted passenger seat, battery clamp and put in a spare wheel and a tool kit, think I'll need them for MOT
