BMC Training Bus 1962 Norway
Saw these on Flickr and wondered if it was a works rally car bus or just a bus?
BMC 40 on it's tour in Norway, April to August 1962. Instructors were Viv Taylor and Ivor Juggins. Here they passes the Artic Circle, Northern Norway.

Re: BMC Training Bus 1962 Norway
It looks to be the same design as BMC 25? Although the back end appears not to open. Looks like a massive 1100!!

Looks like a travelling classroom to give instruction to mechanics at dealerships around Norway.

Surf, that photo must have been taken a year after the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, maybe august 1971 what with the k-reg after august 1 1971 white MGB in the middle.
On the left is the Evening Standard sponsored stripey orange/white Austin Maxi no.74 that competed in it, driven by Rosemary Smith. They came in tenth, not bad for a Maxi 1500.
link on rally and entry list, http://wcr40.org.uk/the-london-mexico-w ... entry-list
results, http://wcr40.org.uk/the-london-mexico-w ... ly/results
Car can be seen at the front in this pic here, before they went on a ferry,
link of above photo, http://rcma.free.fr/escort/recit1.htm
And on the right next to the bus looks like one of the works Austin/Morris 1800's that competed in the event also, in red/white roof/black bonnet works colours.
edit, found this on the stripey Maxi,

Lower left on his knees you see Mr. Basil Wales, the Comps chief.
Inside in white coat is foreman Bill Burrows.

I think it is a 1971 Marina ST, reg. WOK 108 J.

Re: BMC Training Bus 1962 Norway
Brimen - found them on the net, just hope the siteowners don't mind me showing them, but they look free use since most probably the original rights are long lost. But I include the link so that anyone can visit their site.
But I have got a stack of Cars and Car Conversions and Rally Sport magazines from the 1970s - I will have to go through them because I know there are quite a few articles on BL ST vehicles from the 1970s in them. Just have to try and find them in the attic though.
The only reason I thought it was that Marina is because it competed on the 1971 RAC a couple of months after when the photo looks to have been taken, and it carries the Castrol sponsors colours. There is not much stuff about on ST rally Marinas. I think they rallied Allegros too, if I remember right, but again, not much information about on them.
The AOX 705K Marina came in 20th overall and 1st in class on the 1971 RAC Rally, so not bad. It's 1293 engine must have been eight port and on Amals, don't think fuel injected or twin weber 40s, to beat 1300 Escorts and Minis in class.
Results from 1971 Rac Rally at the link here, the top twenty finishers,

Will do.
You have an incredible amount of impressive pics on your flickr site - it's a brilliant collection, it must have taken you quite a time to put together.
The BMC Training Unit set is a must see for anyone here.

Just zoomed your copy of the ST bus photo on the BMC Training unit set of yours, and you are correct. I'm slow at times!
It is J reg, but I can't make out the rest.

That bus is one of the series two, on "tour" from -63.
This photo is from Dublin, Ireland. Probably from 63 - 64 period.
Guess it's visiting a BMC dealer in that area, training mechanics in the "latest" car technic.
Is there any photos from BMC dealers out there??
Cheers....

Hi ref the BL Special Tuning picture, and the Blaze Orange Marina on the ramp, if it was WOK108J it was my old car.
I can pencil in some of the post ST history if anyone would like to know?
I have a couple of photos as well if it helps.
Chris.
