SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
Built this nice 1500 (ex F ford unit) for a client...have a single downdraft fitted but not tested yet...
Client has asked about fitting 45DCOE instead....
The DCOE will present a slight issue with fitting under the bonnet without some mods..he doesn't want that...guess he wants it to be a 'sleeper'...
Anyone have any experience with a Ford unit on the Mini box.
Was popular years ago...don't hear much about these type of mods now.

It doesn't fit unless you want to do the Kellogg's box mod to the bonnet !
I've decided it's Clubman flip front or shell. Have you got any pics of the engine/box build I'd be interested ?
BTW that's a crossflow not a 1500gt lump surely ?

Yes, crossflow head on a 1500 steel block...we used it in a race mini..now it has been changed for a street car...was a nice unit...very smooth ...tons of power and the most important...the reliability.
No substitute for a 5 main bearing engine.
Think we will go with IDA weber....seems to fit nicely in the car.

If the 45 don't fit how are you going to get an IDA on it without a naffing great hole in the bonnet?

Re: SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
One day my client wants the biggest carb/s you get...next day...no no no..I want to make it look stock from the outside....I had the unit sitting in the car at the weekend...it is possible to get two 40's on there...if I could find a really short intake....may have to convince him that this is the way to go.

Re: SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
You could cut and shut a twin 45 manifold, but who knows what effect that will have to the fuelling ? Usually the longer the manifold = more torque. Or if money is no object throttle bodies ? I've had the same thought processes but seeing as there doesn't seem to be an aftermarket short twin 45 manifold off the shelf I reckoned there had to be a reason for it.
This is how most seem to come up

Re: SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
Get a 1600 manifold. It's "lower". You might have an issue with the dizzy. No simple solutions....

Re: SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
There are never any simple solutions when you are doing stuff like this...the 1600 mani may be the solution thanks.
We are using an electronic timing system from the crankshaft so clearance will not be an issue.

Would an old Lucas mechanical fuel injection kit fit? I saw one years ago. It went to Japan.

Re: SINGLE DOWNDRAFT OR DCOE WEBER
Finding a Lucas setup is more than a little tricky!
Personally, I wouldn't look any further than a modern fuel injection system. Small, easy to fit & infinately adjustable.
