I'm looking for a picture showing the mud shield fitted behind the A panel on an early car. I want to find out how the rubber seal sits, and if it also follows down the inner wing from the top.

Yes that's what I have. Do you think the seal is meant to run down the inner wing towards the screw flange ?
I think it should but didn't see the originals.

On my original ones when i removed them the seal just ran down the back on the A panel and the the part with the 3 screws was just mastic sealer

This car had small nut and bolts on the inner wings. Is that what your car had, with self tappers at the bottom ?
