Carpet

Post by Syd »

I know this topic has been done over many time. However have there been any new developments on carpet for a 1965/66 Cooper/S? We all know the rather ordinary quality red Veltone is no longer available. The unique red colour and very 'thin' texture doesn't, in my experience, seem to have been replicated. The modern trend for fitted carpets is not in line with the original 'loose' fit. How does one get an authentic look? The single mat on the driver's side also creates a problem where most modern carpets have double mats. A further issue, those mats are not the correct version.

Ideas greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Syd,

Sadly there have not been any really good choices since the British Trim Company gave up on Minis & concentrated on Jags.

They still do a very respectable fake veltone, but in black ONLY, and with no prospect of any other colours whatsoever.

For my late 65 - 66 Speedwell S I managed to swap some mint red wool carpets for a NOS set of Grey veltone estate ones what will fit great in the front & will go in the back with a bit of modification.

My only suggestion is to get down to your local carpet warehouse, describe what you are after & what you could live with & see what transpires.
