But with time as with the Phil Short car BJB93B, Phil Short always as open that it was not the original car and it had three pages about how it all came together in Mini World but now it become taken for granted that its the original car ,
enough said its a minefield I have been 3 times within a handshake of a Works Car purchase but as a good chap Alister Vines told me be careful hence no Works Car for me

But you have the next best thing already ! , love a bit of history on a car like yours and it's genuine

The strange thing is that Phil talking openly (in the press a least) of DJB being a 'recreation' didn't seem to affect it's value at all when it sold at auction (albeit the auction description was pretty ambiguous!) so why all the other 'recreations' that were built from a logbook don't just do the same I don't know. Quite a few works cars and race cars are literally replicas (forget reshells, I'm talking about being built from scratch after a dodgy logbook application using a radius arm and some old BMC works press photos ) with works numbers on and were they referred to as such I'm sure forums like this would be bereft of all the natter (probably a good thing!). Having said that the media and event organisers are crying out for stories and will make replicas into the real thing themselves if they can. The way I see it is that everybody seems to appreciate a good replica (DJB, or my mate Steve's ORX replica being a good example) so what's not to like about the word replica?
Ultimately conversations like this just go round and round and round because how many restored Mk1 Minis, racing E-Types or rally Escorts have much of their original components? However, I do understand why the brow of so many car nuts gets furrowed at the sudden appearance of so many restored works race, rally or just famous Minis over the last couple of decades or so but please keep any comments above the belt!!

The Internets like the invention of forensic DNA evidence - It exposes the BS thats been hidden away for years and the real cars that have been hidden away for years.
But in the case of BJB . Clearly the only thing left of the car was the boot lid and possibly the rear subframe - there was no engine, electrics, glass, body, trim, competition parts - rally plates - documents yet the original dash has been reunited with the car ? and its had a 25 year restoration -
I love seeing all these cars whether they be real or fake or recreations and they are all credits to the people that build them, but I think a bit of honesty wouldn't go amiss now and again.

All correct - but I do also have all the rear suspension, brakes, bumper, rear lights and rear loom which have also all been incorporated into the car. Of note on the rear suspension - it has two dissimilar radius arm, one of which was replaced after the Tour de France road accident. The original rear subframe is in superb condition, considering its age and has all the fixings and holes for the rear anti roll bar and the twin fuel pump and its protection plate clear to see. The original rear trumpets are also shortened by the exact amount as indicated on the build sheet. All are refurbished and back in place for all to see.pad4 wrote: But in the case of BJB . Finding the cars original dash panels at Beaulieu was also a real bonus and they look so very good, especially with the Halda behind the magnifier. The Halda is from Abingdon but can't be sure from what car. The car is very nearly finished (not after a 25 year build but a good few years I admit) and it has been built exactly as entered in the Tour de France in every detail.
As to honesty, I've never hidden behind what I have of BJB and have always been honest about what I have. I said all this in print way back in 1996 in the Works Mini book for Peter Browning. The assumption that I've done otherwise is incorrect and rather hurtful. I have always campaigned honesty with the Works cars, although I do not stand to criticise other peoples Works cars either (other than JMO969D perhaps!)
The car, I hope, will be finished for Beaulieu when you can all take all the photos you like and I will have photos of the work I have carried out over the years. I hope those who see, understand and appreciate such cars will be happy with what I have done.
Perhaps now you can all rest safely in your beds and just let us all enjoy our cars.
