Goodwood 74th Members Meeting

Post by surfblue63 »

Goodwood have just released the remaining tickets for public purchase for the 74th Members Meeting on the 19th an 20th of March. Imaging The Revival without the crowds and fancy dress, that is what the Members Meeting is. I went last year and, for me, it was the best Goodwood event I had been to for years as you could get about without being jostled by the crowds and badgered by the corporate promo types.

For details click on the link, but be quick as I'm sure the tickets will sell out quickly

It is a cracking event, I don't bother with the FOS anymore due to the amount of people there, Revival is borderline too, but that's great to take the family to as there are also thing for them to see (whilst you do the car stuff)

The MM is like going back to the first Revivals and the mix of old and new cars without the 1966 cut off date is great.

It would be even better if they didn't let the same old faces and dubious celebrities in to race every bloody year.
The vetting system they use doesn't appear to work at all. The last people I would have thought Lord March would want racing here is a load of crooks, gangsters' offspring and more and more ghastly celebrities. But these appear to be let in willy nilly without question.

It is a shame that even with the refreshingly different flavour ( though points noted from above post!) of the Members Meetings having a less crowded , more clubby feel, that the mid to late 60s still get under represented. In terms of saloon cars, it's still like the late 60s/early 70s never happened, though a very conspicuous Mk1 Escort did run (pretty quickly!) in the Gerry Marshall Trophy last year.

The St.Mary's trophy (I think) was awesome, loads of mini's and Nick Swift driving like a god!
I probably be there this year too.
