The last time I saw mention of GRX5D was in an Auction House as a Mark 2, presumably as the Canadian Shell car. Also I have asked before but did LBL 606D sell recently? It was supposed to be auctioned but was also for sale with Sussex Sports Cars.

Yes the current 5D is the later incarnation but a genuine one by all accounts. Haven't a clue on 606D.

I think that LRX 830E was given/sold for a nominal figure to Ronnie McCartney as a token of support form the BMC works as Ronnie was a top privateer and had given BMC endless of press coverage in Ireland that's roughly what Ronnie told me and when I asked him what happened to the car he told me that it was totally shagged when he finished with it so he buried it !!! the reason I asked if anyone knew was so could find the field he chosen or was he larking about I was sure he had buried it ,well that's what Ronnie told me in 1999

Gp6 (not to be confused with Gp5) allowed almost anything (anything that a sports racing prototype could do ie. two seats and by then a 3 litre capacity limit). One thing it had to have (and Gp2 etc. did not have to then) was what we would now call "dual circuit brakes".
Interesting point. Does anyone have a photo of the cable/bar lash up (connecting the brake pedal to the hand brake) that Abingdon used?
True dual circuit master cylinder for Minis was introduced by AP in 1969 or 1970. Early ones were prone to causing the brakes to jam on....as I well know from servicing on the RAC...

I was bought a copy of the SECOND EDITION Browning book ( published 1996 ) for Christmas. Pretty much the same as the first edition, but with more pics. and an extra chapter titled ' Where are they now ?'. This is very interesting, with the story of the discovery of the LRX cars and more pre restoration pictures and quotes from Guy ( Smith ) about those cars and EBL 56C which he also owned and restored. There's a history of most of the cars that were recognised at that time, and interestingly the author suggests that ex Works Minis fall into four general categories, basically based on history / completeness / originality etc. Something that has been discussed recently. There's loads of info. and quotes from owners about their cars which make for some very interesting reading. A mention of GRX 309D caught my attention as being ' resurrected in mainland Scotland, in poor shape, rebuild possible '. It would be good to know which parts were resurrected ?
