Remains of a bracket on the inner wing, any ideas?

Pretty sure that those four holes normally take the snail heater motor for an early fresh air heater, but all early-ish inner wings have the holes - my 75 pick up has them.

Can't think what else they are used for ?

I thought it could have been the remains of the metal clip that holds the elephants trunk, but it looks too heavy a gauge.
Could be a "home made" bracket of some sort.

Can just see the hose bracket at the bottom, that was on holes by the self tapper.

Thought it was odd...

That bracket is not a standard fit, don't forget these cars have been around a long time and it was normal 'back in the day' to add all sorts of extras like air horns etc to customise the car to your own liking.
Picture is from a very original '66 Cooper.
