Re: REGISTERING ON THE FORUM PLEASE READ (V Important!)
I had 16 spambot applications for membership this morning.
Re: REGISTERING ON THE FORUM PLEASE READ (V Important!)
The New Statesman magazine site is plagued by spam, and it's open non-membership comment policy doesn't help.
http://www.newstatesman.com/
It shut down for Christmas, more or less, while everyone was on holiday, so to not let it build up.
Spam is a very technological these days, passes so many filters. Bit like modern drug running.

I'd love to see everyone using real names
It's old school approach but that's where we are, isn't it?
How about insisting that the real name gets put in your profile?
I'd love to know who I'm talking with

Re: REGISTERING ON THE FORUM PLEASE READ (V Important!)
I always used to use my real name on all forums, but then I got a very abusive and threatening phone call in the middle of the night from someone who'd taken offence to my criticism of those fake Chinese Mokes. It made me realise that 1) there's way too many nutters out there and 2) You're actually pretty vulnerable, even in your own home. So don't make it quite so obvious now.Tim Harber wrote:I'd love to see everyone using real names

There's way to many nutters in here too !Tim wrote:Tim Harber wrote: It made me realise that 1) there's way too many nutters out there
Yes it'd be nice if we did all use our real names, and I could do with changing mine anyway seeing as I don't actually own a Surf 1275 anymore. Thing is Tim I'm sure there's a few on the forum too who don't want all and sundry knowing when they've gone away (I don't mean prison), or what they've got in the garage etc etc, sounds paranoid but understandable considering any old Tom Dick or Harry is free to read the forum.

I too would love to see people use real names, but understand why a lot of people choose not to.
