Not a Mk.1, apart from bootlid, but what do experts think about genuineness and originality on this one?

Those look to be "reverse" wheels, not the proper Cooper S ones. (883?)

It has a GT outer 120mph scale and a Clubman 140kph inner scale. The mph numbers do not line up with the scale on the inner, and I always thought that 50mph is about 80kph.

Typical BL = factory error. I dont belive a low milage car like that, had any work done to its speedo.

I have also seen that on Danish GT speedo,s and the opposite on a std Clubman speedo (inner dial was GT).
Both these speedo,s was taken out of cars more than 30 years ago, and had the factory "glue" on the screws.
Kwjcoopermk2 have also found speedo,s with wrong inner & outer dials, so its not a rare sight.

It wouldn't be down to BL as such as the instrument clusters were bought in.

Is it me or do the screws on that speedo look as if they might have been 'got at'?

I'd agree they look a little burred.
If its had that speedo head from new then (assuming the gearbox end is correct) then the mileage will be way out! It would also have felt dreadfully slow!

One of Smiths efforts. The Clubman / GT speedo head and instruments were also used by the pre facelift Marina. I doubt even Smiths would have got that wrong tbh.

There were a lot issued in Oxfordshire in 1964. No idea why. I owned a 3 numbers TJO from that year.
Different county councils seemed to have quite a bit of freedom.

I laughed too when I saw the van advertised yesterday as "a project" I don't think even with the parts available nowadays that one is restorable in the strictest sense although we'll probably see a van bearing the registration on day........

"Year letters were not compulsory until 1965 (C reg), so a vehicle may have been registered during 1963 and 1964 without a year letter."

(I also remember my dad bought a brand new 1964 Ford Zephyr without suffix).

That Mini Van looks like it wasn't too bad until someone sawed it in half!

Why would anyone do that?

I heard a story that is very likely true as I know of the person it is about.
Said person (who is known to be very difficult to put it mildly) had a Mini Traveller for sale about 30 years ago and when someone went to buy it they made an offer that was a bit less than the asking price. So the seller came back with a counter offer (like any of us would do) the buyer wouldn't budge on increasing their offer.
So instead of not selling the car to that person and looking towards selling it to someone else, said difficult person decided that the potential buyer had insulted them with such an inferior offer and took an angle grinder to the car saying that he would get more in scrap value  !!

I've heard this story from a number of sources so it probably is true and not some urban myth.

Glad I didn't come across this character when buying my Traveller :)
