1300GT front plate to Mini front plate

Post by Jono »

Can anyone tell me how to modify an engine front plate from a 1300GT to suit a Mini configuration?

ie., what can I cut off and what do I need to leave on.

Unfortunately I have no reference engines except for another complete 1300Gt lump and a 1275 A plus which is of course different in the timing case area.

Cheers

Follow the profile of the A+ one.

Thanks Spider - reliable as ever!

The problem is the A+ is in the car and so I can't take a profile from it.

Peering down though the engine bay however the A+ looks a different shaped timing cover and back plate - asymetrical - not 'tear drop' shaped as my A series cover :?

Do you have a gasket to trace round?

Yes, he'd need to preserve that hole outside the gasket line.

Jono, yes, the timing covers between A and A+ are different shape, but the Front Engine Plates are very much the same profile / shape between these two, but given your A+ one is on the car, that's not much help!

I did think of that earlier, around the back side that's fine, but I wouldn't follow it around the front!

Thanks guys,

By some internet detective work I managed to work out the required shape and the plate is now cut, fettled and painted (where it will be exposed).

I am pleased to say that it looks exactly as per the photo posted by 1071bob.

Many thanks

Cheers
