I totally agree with Rich. If someone was going to go to the lengths of faking a shell to the Nth degree there have been ways to do this for a long time. Generally speaking people do not use the FE number to date a shell, some people do, but the vast majority don't.

I do take on Pete & Bill's points, but don't think that a repro FE number would fox either of them for too long. TBH I doubt it would "fool" most people once they REALLY examined them.

I would suggest that it is easier & more likely for a "faker" to switch a genuine FE numbers from 1 shell to another & that this has probably been done in the past.

As far as i am concerned an FE plate is simply a part of a car it does not constitute part of a cars identity. I am sure that there will be a lot of people who will be very pleased to use one of these in their restoration. I would certainly have used one of these on the floor of my Speedwell car as the original was really skanky. As it is, it just got skipped, I did however very carefully transfer the original FE number from the rusty inner wing to the new replacement inner wing.

Is this same font as the body number plate from the front panel as mine has always been missing since I bought the car as front panel had been changed, again the body number is not the vin recognised by dvla so don't really see a problem with supplying those, I would be interested if this is the case. My fe number and chassis plates are fine and having a body number would be much better.

Looks like we lost a few posts on this.
So, just as a follow up.
I now have the jig all made and working
I am attaching a couple of pictures to illustrate the results.
One is an F plate...shows the old plate and the new one.
Have set the price at 35 pounds which includes a spot weld on each...(this will look just like the original)....primer and postage
Reason for the spot welds...many will have the car already repaired and spot welding is not an option. JB weld (epoxy) works very well...this is used by many body shops now.

30 pounds if you just want a bare plate. (includes postage)
Discount for two or more as the postage would be same.

Have done quite a few plates for clients...good feedback from all of them.
Must say, they do look darn good when they are welded onto the inner wing.

Damn it, I cant find a single picture of the original FE number for my 67 S. Always the way I take 5,000 pictures during a restoration strip but the one I really need is never there!!
