Just watched the Pro's timed practice.......amazingly Jason Plato on (Mini) pole with Chandhok 2nd in the Swiftune car (cannot believe that the James Martin car is a patch on Swifty's).
As I feared, the BMW-cheap-marketing-stunt-pile-of-dogfood car brings up the rear and by no small margin - perhaps in 2017 they'll invite someone who actually knows how to prepare a historic racing car?

1555
Owners this time.......Swifty spanks it over all the other Minis.
As suspected, James Martin is out of his league and Theo proves that he could cause a serious accident one day.....how long's he been racing?
And lots of "owners" driving cars I thought belonged to other people. :?

Since we last saw him at Donington in May! He's having fun though (at his own pace), as I'm sure the Chef is.

I suspect BMW have pumped a few quid in, hence the entry, lots of TiSAs also entered and they're also presenting the very un Wolfsburg coachbuilt display . They'll be buying the rights to the bleedin' Queen next! (well at least for once there's German connection ! )

Plato can drive a Mini and did well at Goodwood in the Spring so I can believe he put in a good performance. Martin's car will have all the Swifty bits and Chandok will probably be a little out of his comfort zone being a rooky to both Minis and Goodwood!

PS it's still being streamed live now! And you can 'rewind' the footage back to the saloons at the beginning of the stream.

To be fair to all St Mary's competitors, they were a thoroughly entertaining couple of practice sessions and Swifty was majestic.
The coverage did tend to hang around on the same car for a couple of laps which was a bit annoying.....they don't even do that when covering F1!
All in all, a very good distance spectating experience and I'm really looking forward to the races!

Had a great day out at Goodwood on Friday - which may prove to have been the best day weatherwise. almost 250miles in my Mk1 which ran very sweetly as usual. As promised, a few pics of the Radford display......

Well, all you lot going on Sunday can now cancel your original plans because the 1st St Mary's race was an absolute blaster that, dare I say, will not be beaten this weekend. What a smasher!
It'll be interesting to see if that Thunderbolt will go as quickly tomorrow.
But....Pray for rain folks.....it's the only way you'll get to see any Mini action if you're not actually there tomorrow! Even the quick chaps Plato and Chandhok, were way down the field and the director was not particularly interested in them.

Ahem...I may have to re-appraise my recent attitudes regarding Goodwood....I have ...erm....two tickets offered for....um....tomorrow!

No the director wasn't though the commentary team were! We'll have to wait for some 'in car' to see what happened with the Minis?, Safe to say Chandhok and Plato had a great battle with the other Minis well down the order and lapped (the BMW entry was near the very back and the Castrol coloured Smail car expired on Pirro within two laps) Great race as you say, one of the best for many years (if not THE best) and Theo's Anglebox is obviously a quick car! Jordan was unlucky not to finsih on the podium, great drive. That Thunderbolt doesn't juest have tons of grunt but tons of rubber to match.

Thanks for the Radford pics Richard, whose is the shell anyone? Shame Bri didn't make the line up.

Glad you liked the pics Pete. Sorry old mate - none of taxi girls this year 'cos I never found them and I DID search - on your behalf obviously. I expect there's been some EU directive or local bylaw or something to spoil our fun..... Plenty else to see though. I can post a few more pictures taken in the pits etc if you like? None of the racing 'cos my camera zoom isn't working. An excellent day, we stayed almost until the end before setting off home. A meal break meant not getting back until after midnight so a long day out.

Cooper/Mini nuts George Shackleton and David Woodhouse both up front in the Earl Of March Trophy (Shackleton, who came to Blyton last year on pole) both in Coopers this morning! (entered by Mike Cooper/ Cooper Car Co.)

Try and catch that race by rewinding Youtube, it was an absolutle cracker! Shacklteon drove his socks off to get into the lead, which changed several times but he reatained it and then ended up in the pit wall on his very last exit through the chicane. Very big hit, luckily/hopefully he's OK. Woodhouse fought his way up to 3rd.

Some more photos in the TMF link below (not mine) including this Minivan:-
"This year they paid a special tribute to Bruce McLaren. When they were developing their CanAm and F1 race cars they needed to know how to setup up the wings to generate the correct levels of downforce. To do this they strapped a wing onto a mini van and drove around the track whilst someone in the back would adjust the wing and take measurement readings."

Just watched it! Fantastic racing and just goes to show that you don't need a big engine to go pretty fast and have a lot of fun :o
