Absolutely right. Properly measured and fitted, you cannot beat them

Having had circlips "disappear" on my first tuned engine,
I agree with everyone else here - If I'd have known about
them at the time I'd have used them myself...

The engine that killed itself was later re-built with a new block
by my brother. By this time, we were aware of teflon buttons
and they were fitted. These were great, but the engine did die
of a snapped crank at some point...

Well, no, and yes...
The engine I was talking about here was a 998, and the crank was snapped by my
brother, but I did personally snap the crank on my 1098/Hilman Imp=1242cc engine.

The replacement for that one was a tuftrided version...

Are these buttons available for purchase somewhere, or do you need to get them made up? I will be putting together a warm 998 shortly and am interested in a set.

I got mine from Tim at Minimail, the only set he had so not sure where you might find them.
They came from Minispares some time ago so maybe Rich may be able to help when he's finished unpacking at his new shop.If you need photos & size let me know as I won't be fitting them for about 6 weeks.

I know we covered this before...I made my own.
You can buy Teflon rods on E Bay.

If you have a friend who can spin a few up on his lathe...you will be very happy with them. Our 1071 racer never let us down with the buttons...it was a very high revving engine built by Longman.

While I do make and use Teflon Buttons and never had an issue with them, in the higher end stuff that I have done, I make the buttons in aluminium ;)

If you get someone to make them up, make sure they are not tight in the Pins and that they have an off set (ie not square on) vent hole through them, they need to breath.
