Goodwood Revival 2015
So who's got the gossip on the runners and riders for the Revival 2015. We know Goodwood don't like to release details to keep everything a surprise but I did read somewhere that there will be seven or eight Minis entered in the St Mary's Trophy. I know Jason Stanley is sharing his car with Aaltonen, Swifty obviously (with Turner?) and did read in Motoring News that Richard Meins was in a Mini but forget who with? Anyone got any more info?
I have also heard that the coachbuilt Mini (if it is just one) in the coachbuilt car display may well be a Beatles car.

Who with, do you know? I know it's a bit of a closed shop (to say the least!) with the owner/drivers so I doubt anyone new.

Same old faces with expected "celebrities" thrown in.
Anyone who raced in or watched the Donington HSCC race this year will know what a total farce two of these invitations are. I just hope no one gets killed.

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
I did and must be honest there's one Cortina who is always near the front at most Masters events that isn't there...very odd...have to say how does the Matt Neal/Gordon Shedden entry work, always thought it was a pro/non pro combination but it seems to have morphed to 'owner/and pro'..or have I missed that bit before..YMJ wrote:Same old faces with expected "celebrities" thrown in.

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
But that's the flavour of the Revival, it's as much about theatre and entertainment as it is about historic racing. Despite the serious and professional way some entrants take it (like Swifty) when you start to drop celebs into a race like that who have proved what poor drivers they are in the past you have to take the entertainment factor and that public draw into account. There's also the corporate clout that manufacturers like BMW have who are only interested in good PR, Ford have had a very strong influence on the revival for years. It's a shame the grass roots don't get a sniff but it's always been that way.YMJ wrote:Same old faces with expected "celebrities" thrown in.

I wonder if/how they'll get away with the flying displays this year? Long list of Spitfires on the itinerary!

Yes Pete but it doesn't make it "right" does it. And it certainly wasn't always-this-way in 2001 when I got to have a crack.Pete wrote:But that's the flavour of the Revival, it's as much about theatre and entertainment as it is about historic racing. I mentioned a couple of years ago on this board.....I was desperate for an entry ticket for the Saturday to help someone out and I searched high and low using every single motorsport angle and driver contact I could, to no avail...."Goodwood? On the Saturday? You're joking aren't you?"
In the end purely by a chance snippet of conversation, my wife's friend who works at Marie Claire magazine got us as many as we wanted!
The only thing this year that made me feel good was that one of my mates who has been recently successful on the world stage was asked to share a car and he told them to "Sod off, I'll drive at Goodwood but only with YMJ!" He, like me, has come up from the "wrong side of the track".

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
There's been two or three members of this forum that have got an entry at the Revival in the past who definitely aren't from the Bullingdon Club but just happened to know or been introduced to the right people at the right time. Once you're in it looks like you're in, class background aside. That in itself still isn't right because it excludes some great potential entrants like Jonathan Lewis for example in favour of owners/drivers who literally only race at the Revival every couple of years.
As a speccy on numerous occasions going back to the 90s though I'd still say its the best car event of any kind, just wish I could go this year.

As far as I'm aware they are only stopping vintage jets from doing any aerobatics. Piston engined planes are allowed to carry on as normal .Pete wrote:

Hope so anyway, as I'm off to Duxford in a fortnight where there are 20+ Spitfires and half a dozen Hurricanes going up at once

To be serious for just one second, I have lost the bursting desire to race there that used to take up every thinking minute of my day. But every now and then, about this time of year, I experience a surge of jealousy that really screws me up. Grrr!

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
Some pictures of the runners and riders..
Chandhok and Swifty testing..
Ben Shuckburgh's newly built car from Mondosport that he's sharing with Chris Hoy...
It certainly looks a bonny wee thing in metallic blue but would look just like a period Equipe Arden racer (why has nobody ever done that?) if he lost the odd Ecosse connection and bonnet stripes! Will the pit crew be wearing kilts per chance?
Stanley testing..
So we know BMW have 'the Prince' driving and Joerg Weidlinger (??) in the red car (?) they built for 2011 I presume which didn't go too well as I remember.
Not sure what the Lillingston- Price/Christian Horner or the (Higginson) Smail/Pirro cars look like but Desmond Smail has raced a white car at Goodwood in the past.

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
The trouble with both the FOS and Revival is once you have had any involvement running or displaying cars you just want to do it again and again (despite the really long days) they can pick and choose what they want car wise, so it will be a case of waiting until things 'fit' again and then potentially getting an invite.
I know people that are racing this year that didn't think they would get an invite again, then all of a sudden the call comes and you're in.
Family commitments this year are stopping a full weekends activities

Got tickets for the Friday (practice day) this year for a change so there'll be at least one Mk1 Mini in the car park
Hoping for reasonable weather and I'm sure there will be plenty of great sights and sounds. Can't wait!

Re: Goodwood Revival 2015
How ironic you mentioned the flying displays Pete, as this morning a Spitfire being tested for the revival crash landed in a field shortly after take off down at Woodchurch in Kent, thankfully no injuries apart from the Spit who lost a wing.
Going down on Saturday and looking forward to it. It's the only car event that the better half doesn't want to leave.

I going to Goodwood on Saturday but I'm also thinking about going on Friday. Could anyone tell me if Friday is a good day? What happens then?
