Any idea on this?

Post by dodge44 »

About 25 years ago (!) I salvaged a wiring loom from a written off mk1 Mini in a scrapyard in Vaggs Lane at Tiptoe near New Milton, Hants. No idea what the car was as all that was left was the Surf blue bulkhead but this was part of that loom. Presume it's the full beam dip switch but I'm not familiar with this arrangement. Anybody able to identify / date it ? The 'arm' moves as a switch but it's essentially a stiff coil spring (like a cable sheath) so is hardly very precise ! There is also the question of how you work it with your foot...

That looks like an MG TD Dip switch with a modified handle? I can't say I've ever seen one fitted to a mini before?

See what you mean about MG TD switch. Few more pictures to ponder. Have now examined the loom and can confirm it was certainly being used as a dip switch. Reference to the manual implies the loom itself is for Super, Super de-Luxe, Countyman, Traveller and Cooper up to 1964 (5L506?). So floor start, Temperature & oil pressure gauges. Given the car it came off was dismembered I'm guessing some sort of odd race vehicle modification but it would still be nice to know what it came off..

If its a Lucas item there might be a Lucas part number on it.
