First Mini - 1960 Morris Mini-Minor
After a long search, we just purchased our first Mini. It's a pretty early one if you ask me, but you guys will know more as we're brand new to this. We've just submitted the order for a Heritage Certificate, which will hopefully help us get a bit more info on the car.
We even have the original paperwork from when the car was first sold in the UK back in 1960. Only trouble is that the motor isn't original, so that will be a bit of a challenge to sort out, if even possible.
VIN plate lists the car no. as M/A2S4 - 27832.
Anyway, here it is.

Looks like it was originally sold as a de-luxe per this original sales receipt. I'd be interested to know if M.E. Wheeler Esq. is around today.

It is nice to have the original sales receipt. Eastern Garages were already a long established Morris and MG dealers by 1960 having been around since the early 1930's and maybe before that.
I wonder why the original purchaser travelled forty or so miles from Mill Hill to Chelmsford for his new car? It would have taken a good hour in those days when there were plenty of Morris dealers much closer to Mill Hill, there were two in Mill Hill itself. It certainly doesn't appear to have been for any discount.

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.

very nice indeed
I also have a Feb 1962 Morris mini minor which has clear front indicator lenses
Does anyone know if this is correct?
I always thought they were all orange, but saw another '62 yesterday with clear lenses

The '62 had amber originally Martin. I fitted the clear lenses as I preferred them and liked the idea of going a bit different with the twin filament to have the side lights and flashing white indicators (legal here on pre '63 cars).Chewie Baker wrote:very nice indeed
