1971 mk1 replica sleeper with 180bhp
Well it's not a real mk1 but it's about as close as I could get to one - on the outside at least!
It's a 1971 mk3 that had a lot of mods including mk1 door hinges and handles (modified to work with mk3 latches), doors re-shaped, mk1 rear lights, mk1 front end (grill etc), cooper s genuine steel wheels and mk1 dash bits etc. I love the look of the basic mk1 850's so that's what I was aiming for.
The other main modification is the installation of a 180bhp 1.8 lotus elise (k series) vvc engine and 5 speed box with torsen diff!
hope you like it:

the front end is removable but all fixings are hidden so it's almost impossible to tell

What a brilliant creation!
A great MK1 conversion on the outside & a FRICKEN crazy lump under the bonnet. YES, I am certainly impressed with your work.

Looking great Gaz, can't wait for when you take me out in it! See what it's like on the 10" wheels now. Definitely needs to be at Blyton 2016!

Re: 1971 mk1 replica
Spectacular job with that one.
Good engine to use.
I really don't see how you did the removable front, therefore excellent design.
I am sure you can get a "Land Rover" center cover for the engine instead of that weird Lotus one.
Ok, what did you do with the stupid Rover K series thermostat?

I am not a fan of modified non A-series engined Minis, but that car is absolutely superb and I can only congratulate you on your achievement.

As a veteran of 2 16v conversions I have only be astounded by the level of workmanship that has gone into this,it is truly a credit to you and the removable front is out of this world.

C'mon Ken. You ain't gonna let him beat you are you...lol
I think the bar has been raised when it comes to Mini conversions. That is a supremely well executed conversion.
