998 Cylinder Head Wanted.

Post by Polarsilver »

maybe someone on here has a Standard 998 Cylinder Head on the shelf that has already been pressure checked with a surface skim & valves seats sorted and ready to fit .. for a sensible price ?
Worth asking as otherwise i will get the machine shop to sort out my original.

If I might ask a question here, I have quite a collection of cyl. heads. In the group there are several A+ 998 heads. All my 998 builds end up with either a 295 or a 940 casting. Is there a market for std A+ cyl. heads completely refreshed? I'm sure shipping would kill crossing the pond. Steve (CTR)

I would say there is a relatively small market for refreshed standard 998 heads. Those that do want to stay with the stock head would have it machined here. (UK). Shipping costs etc. would definitely make this not viable especially as the cores here are so plentiful meaning that more tend to get scrapped than reworked.
I have read that there is allegedly a rare A+ (CAM 4810) J series head which is slightly better shaped in the valve throat area. Thought to be worth 3-5hp in standard form. These are apparently sought after for budget race formulas that only allow standard heads. (Grass track or ministox). I'm not convinced this is a thing, but some claim it is evidence based
As you know, for a road car there are easier and cheaper ways to achieve more power from a head swap than spending vast sums on machining/porting a standard 998 to the hilt. So demand for the CAM 4810 will always be low.
Eventually, of course, the run of the mill 998 head will become rare but it will take a long time!
