Veltone BMC NOS red carpet for Mini Traveller

I have a section of NOS Red Veltone black backed carpet for sale. It’s the rear footwell section. Has a couple of small cuts due to storage and age. If carefully glued these will be un noticed. Very rare item being genuine old stock.

I am happy to take to Beaulieu or if buyer wishes to collect in Bridgwater Somerset or again I can post at an extra cost.

To be honest I have never seen original BMC Veltone with rubber backing to it. However if anybody knows any different?

...though going through my photos I note that my one owner '66 has felt on the floor and rubber backed on inner arches? Never thought about it before?? From this pic (unfortunately the car isn't close by to check directly), the floor carpet may be rubber backed too.

65 onwards late mark 1 and 2 had rubber black backed Veltone carpet. I have original carpet from a 65 and that has the rubber backing to it. Earlier cars didn’t have the rubber backing. You can only buy felt backed now which is the repro stuff.

Original Veltone carpet, fitted to late Mk1 and Mk2 Minis was black rubber-backed. The reproduction Veltone supplied these days has felt backing. Earlier cars with hessian-backed carpet was 'Karvel'.

ALL genuine BMC Veltone had a black rubber backing. If it has a hessian backing it's BAS or the earlier British Mini Co stuff. Both of which are repro.

I fitted a full set of NOS to the Speedwell car & still have bits & bobs of other NOS veltone. It ALL Has a rubber backing.

Interesting, all of my nos doesn't. As previously mentioned it could be down to age then?

The original Veltone was flocked straight onto the black rubber backing which was an integral part of the manufacturing process, it wasn't woven & stuck on to jute backing like the BAS stuff. The two methods are totally different, but do produce 2 carpets that look similar from the front. These original Veltone carpets were used across the majority of the BMC range & ALL the ones I have ever seen are of the black rubber backed type. I have NEVER seen an original Veltone type carpet with a brown jute backing. Any old ones are most likely British Mini Company / Mini Trim Company ones from the 80's & 90's these were I( believe first commissioned by Vortz & were manufactured by the company that is now BAS.

These repros were originally available in Black, Light Grey (wrong for Minis) & Red & were a regular part of a decent restoration back in the late 80's & 90's.
