I was going to rebuild my original S engine to keep as a spare, but I need to clear some space so am offering it for sale here as a job lot.

Block is a Sept 1965 casting AEG312 currently at +20; head is correct AEG163 with unleaded seats; crank, rods etc. are the original S forged parts. Built up by me in 2018 using NOS or quality modern parts. e.g. ST510 cam from Mini sport, IWIS timing gear from Calver, AP blue clutch.

It was a good runner when removed earlier this year, oil pressure 50psi hot at idle. The engine has less than 3000 miles on it since being installed in 2018 - I don’t know if I glazed the bores during running-in, but it has too much blue smoke for my liking. I have a new set of +20 County S pistons and Grant rings if you want to try honing it to de-glaze, I also have a +30 set of the same if you choose to rebore. Both sets are included in the deal.

I was going to rebuild it as a complete drop-in spare, so I’ve got the following [mostly MiniSpares] new parts ready to complete the final assembly: NOS rear tappet covers, 3-row S radiator and S cowl, evo water pump + Kevlar hoses, BMH export fan, Mocal oil cooler and hoses, Maniflow freeflow exhaust manifold, Payen head and exhaust gaskets, repro S distributor & starter motor. No dynamo/alternator, inlet manifold or carbs.

Transmission is non-S Mk3 mini remote 3.65 diff on 22G846 4-synchro box, it works well enough but could do with new baulk rings - I have a replacement set. As this is a pre-66 engine, the diff has yoke outputs not Hardy Spicer flanges; I have the original used white QL5000’s removed from the car, and a new repro black set.

I also have a complete Hardy Spicer conversion set - output shafts, flanges, diff covers, seals, bolts & collets, and 3.44 CW/P - if you want to convert it from yoke to flange to run in a post-1966 S.

All located in 02140 Massachusetts, USA. Buyer collects, or arranges local pickup.

Asking $4000 total for everything as above.
