3 pieces each side in stainless steel up to January 63 and then 1 piece each side in chrome PVC.

It depends which model and what age the car is. Early "basic" models had three-piece body-coloured painted steel, as fitted to vans and pick ups. Deluxe had flat one-piece plastic. All Supers had three-piece stainless, so did all Coopers and Super Deluxes up to January 1963, changing to one-piece plastic "ribbed" trim thereafter. Garry.

Change dates usually refer to entries in parts books but in reality superseded parts continued to be fitted months afterwards. "Seven" was deleted from Austin minis in January 1962 but many display "Seven" well in to the year.

Any pictures of the 3-piece stainless steel trim? I would like to see where the separations are.

This is what Somerford say, and their drawing might help too. Basically, the middle section is straight and all the break lines are by the arches.

From late 1961 however the standard models followed the more upmarket Minis and used bright three-piece stainless steel finishers instead. Gradually from 1963 to 1965 the three-piece finishers were replaced on all models by long one-piece plastichrome items (see item 67 for these). Minis still fitted with three-piece finishers in late 1964 and 1965 had the front wheel arch finishers shortened to allow for the brake cooling cut-outs in the front panel.
