MK1 Twin carbs with 12A661P manifold

Post by TonyMini »

Good day. I need some advise on twin carbs I bought to restore. Markings on manifold is 12A661P (letter P stamped at bottom). Letters AEG347 stamped above it. MOWOG stamped at back of manifold. Carburettor aluminium tag number AUC943F. SU carburettors Birmingham stamped ontop. Is this possibly a set that was installed on the Cooper S at launch.

I have a funny feeling that the 12A661 number was a universal Birmaloy(?) casting that was machined after casting to suit the application. Holes for take-offs, threaded etc etc. So it did find its way onto Coopers and S's

This type was designed to take both a servo and the crankcase positive ventilation system (middle extension), so came into play early to mid 64.

Are your carbs 1 1/4 or possibly H4 1 1/2 inch?

As above the AUC 943 shows up for MGA H4 (1.5”) twin carbs. The “F” on the suffix designates it as the front carb (whereas minis would have L or R)
