Momo Prototipo Reproduction Steering Wheels on Ebay

Post by Exminiman »

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115874518602 ... R9y-l4W6Yg

Surprised to see this on Ebay, new Momo Prototipo wheel for £85.00... :o

I am guessing this could be another word for copy ?

Personally, I wouldn`t want a copy of a steering wheel, for safety reasons mainly, I just mention it as these will soon end up on second hand market....

They may be well made - the problem is how do you tell ?

Makes you wonder how many other "Reproductions" there are out there ?

Here we go, case in point, is the "used one" really a used one or a new "Reproduction" ?

Momo and Nardi steering wheels have had fake/copy/counterfeit versions of their wheels on eBay for years.

Generally the real ones have stamping on the back with “Made in Italy” and a month-date code, although of course this can also be copied

I had no idea they were so widely copied, not one to buy second hand, unless you are 100% sure its correct, especially off ebay.

Is there nothing that isn’t copied these days, found out recently, Mitutoyo verniers, micrometers are quite widely copied as well.

The original listing has now disappeared, presume it will pop up again, sooner or later.

I just wonder how these people get away with copying current products, its obviously illegal.

That Youtube video is both impressive & quite scary!

I have bought a couple of "Rep[roduction" wheels over the years & sadly, both have been a bit on the wobbly order. I guess they are OK as long as you don't abuse them.

Also you'll normally you will find that fake Nardi wheels have a Momo bolt pattern so they fit most Bosses, as opposed to needing a Nardi Boss.

I’d say most of the eBay ones that appeared in my search today were the proper Nardi pattern

Eg

You can find all sorts of “fake” parts on eBay, like racing harnesses, bucket seats and steering wheels

Looked at my Momo the alloy finish is Brushed not Polished .. the leather stitching is perfect, on rear is Made in Italy with very light stamped numbers presume this is the date made or maybe serial no; ?.. Momo Wheels just have the feel when you hold them of quality & that would be difficult to replicate.

Genuine classic Momo's are a thing of beauty. I use them in both my race and road Minis. I am very wary of any of the fake crap and wouldn't let my worst enemy use one on any car that moves under its own steam...
