Gaydon Records Department response

Post by Polarsilver »

me sent a request asking can i go to Gaydon & look at the records held for my specific car.. saying the V5c is in my name and i am fully prepared to pay to visit Gaydon for my research ..
The Gaydon Records Dept; Response " Unfortunate our Mini Cooper S Records are not available to the Public so there is no way to view them i,m afraid."

Ok we all know why the situation is needed but if the applicant can prove their request is genuine .. Hey Ho.

Oh dear, didn’t realise they’d stopped that. As you say I think we all know why, such a shame the genuine enthusiast gets clobbered for the wrong doings of the wrong uns. Same with DVLA and data protection. You can a Heritage trace of course but researching a car is so much harder nowadays than it was for that reason, albeit the internet can be pretty useful!

The Cooper S records have been closed for a few years now. This situation was of course caused by people using the information in them to resurrect long dead cars & create fakes using all the original info from them.

Sad, but probably a sensible move.

I knew the works car records were off limit but hadn’t realised this. Has been abused over the years though so not entirely a surprise.

If their no public can look at the records policy stops the con merchants i can agree that has to be a good thing ..
All i wanted to find out was this cars Heritage Cert shows the first owner was Austin Longbridge Factory .. having owned another Longbridge Factory registered Mk3 S on that Heritage Cert showing it allocated to the Longbridge Factory Quality Department .. i just wanted to find out with my current Longbridge Factory Car to what department it was allocated when first road registered .. what is interesting this Longbridge Factory Car was UK Road Registered two days before it shows up as being Factory Dispatched.

Well such trivia gives me something to do

I think you will find that if you contact Gaydon with specific questions about a chassis number they are more than happy to help where they can. It's just there is a blanket policy of no one being left on their own with the records anymore.

Quite agree. Give Richard Bacchus in the archives a call and explain what you want. I have always found him very willing and helpful.
