1071 Cooper S
The 1071 turns 60 this year.Who is dusting off their 1071s this year to get them out this summer?
I dug mine out from the back of the shed to see if I can get it ready in time for Blyton and/or Beaulieu. Not seen the light of day since the fantastic Goodwood Revival experience of 2019. The engine has been out and rebuilt, primarily to correct an issue with a cam bearing being accidentally installed the wrong way round! I've also dropped out the rear subframe and changed all of the brake and fuel pipes to more authentic looking steel rather than the copper pipes previously fitted. A new set of Blockleys have replaced the old Dunlop SP4 tyres which look great but were way too old for road use. Just need to find another weekend to bleed the brakes and clutch and install the dreaded radiator and a few other bits and bobs. I craned the engine in solo so didn't fancy putting the radiator on first. Then a bit of time getting the engine running and set up nicely.
I expect Tim's is ready to break cover under its own steam! Any others?

Re: 1071 Cooper S
Not a Cooper S but it is a 1071 and 1963!
Certainly doesn't need dusting off, Night rally tonight and targa rally on Sunday.
1071 S engine still working hard!

If it’s at the same place as HOY was I hope it’s in a better shed! Not that you couldn’t fettle it either way….Andrew1967 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 2:15 pm The early 1071 I know of isn’t going anywhere for a long time .. if ever![]()
What colour is it, out of interest?

Steve, it is in a drier shed than HOY was but god only knows what it’s really like as can only see a small part of it.
It’s OEW/Black … not sure if Austin or Morris

If you add up the Austin and Morris cars (taxed and SORN’d) in the right engine CC range on How many left you come up with 186, no idea how accurate that is

My R/B 1071 has been in my ownership since 1971....all original as it hasn't been on the road since then.

Re: 1071 Cooper S
They were throwaway cars in the seventies. Around 1974 ish my Dad fitted an MG1300 engine and gearbox into one belonging to a fellow Yeovil Car Club member. It had already been painted bright yellowy orange (a Fiat colour apparently) with a blue roof and Mark II lights/grille. The 1071 engine was acquired by knocking 30 quid off the bill.
The car would probably have been stripped of goodies and weighed in at the nearest metal yard 3-4 years later at most. There was no desire to save them and they only started to become valuable in the mid eighties, ten years after most were chopped up.

Re: 1071 Cooper S
I've still a longish list of bits to find, but slowly slowly catch a monkey - but I can guarantee it won't be in its anniversary year
