SPAM applications

Post by mk1 »

Unfortunately we seem to be in another storm of gentlemen from China & Pakistan wanting to join. I have managed to weed a lot of these spam applications out but there will inevitably be the odd one that gets through.

If anyone sees an obvious spam post, please can they let me know so I can deal with asap.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks for the heads up.

This issue is currently sorted, but needs particular vigilance at the moment. I haven't had an onslaught like this in a few years.

Mark - is this thread the best place to report this activity for your action?

Hi,

Best bet is to PM me. If possible, if not a message here will do the trick.

This is a really great illustration as to how difficult it is to keep the forum running smoothly. While all out assaults on the forum like the one that happened yesterday, with over 20 applications are relatively rare, spam applications are an almost daily occurrence & the antics of earlier today show how disruptive just one of these little monkeys can be.

I am (currently) quietly optimistic that I may have sorted things again, at least for the moment, but only time will tell.

Please, if anyone does see any spam, send it to me via PM asap.

Thanks,

Mark

We had a similar thing on a club mini forum. I think we added in a question to the register form which weeded out all the spam accounts

I have used a Q&A captcha question for years & has been pretty effective, but I had to change it 3 times yesterday. It is by no means fool proof.
