Securit glass

Post by Dearg1275 »

When was Securit glass first used on UK built minis? Was it as early as 1972/3?

I say that it was slightly earlier....., say '71, when there was a glass strike somewhere and BL went to the smaller suppliers. I had a shattered toughened screen replaced with a laminated TYNEGLASS one. That isn't SECURIT of course, but it was of the time and situation

My 1967 Mk1 had some Securit glass (the rear side windows) - all the rest was TRIPLEX - the car was family owned from new and none of the glass had been replaced. Interestingly for a mid 67 built car (July) it had piano hinged chrome framed side windows rather than the stainless ones that were current at the time...
