One I scrapped in 1990, after stripping completely for spare parts. This was left on the garden/lawn of my parents house over the winter until I finally cut it up in spring... [and yes, we did get it through that gate and down the garden path!]

Sadly Spoons, the last car I remember from round these parts with a 'works' or 'Comps' historical background has long gone. As I said some time ago, it was in a garage in St Amand Drive, gradually getting covered in more and more - and more - clutter. Dad ex MG man got incomplete car/shell, lovely wife with son who now owned it. Son moved away, mum wanted house back and after a couple of years, garage was cleared and shell with contents and other goodies ended up at Drayton scrapyard as just so much scrap. That's just how fings woz round these parts then!

I seem to recall that a couple of years ago some of the ex works nerdy anoraks actually established exactly what car/shell this car was and more interestingly, what parts went with it when it was disposed of to dad, yet another fortuitous member of the MG site maintenance engineers. It was one of the 'cars' that went to ground, here in Abingdon as opposed to sold off elsewhere. Or in this case, finally went to ground in Drayton scrapyard.

The irony is that this scrapyard has a bit of a history for collecting unusual scrap. Several years before, an RAF Beverly took off from RAF Abingdon and just, er........, sort of dropped in some 30 yards from the same scrapyard

Some of those ex works nerdy anoraks do some interesting detective work Pete. Did you get opportunity to read Robert Young's recent book while you were ....not visiting the forum ? Fantastic details and photos from the well documented works mini Abingdon days. The post BMC Works Abingdon days are less clear. Perhaps another book... :)
