Reading this months copy of the MCR CooperWorld magazine reminded me of the seat flier above I gave to Mark for the Mk1 Performance website some time back, I noticed Terry Hunter got this mention in the Peter Barker interview with John Aley recorded in 2004.
John Aley Quote:
" The early days of the Mini accessory business were great: the various people were all amiable rogues with a racing background. I once had to bail Terry Hunter out of jail in Norwich because of some business irregularity. Gordon Spice and I went round all the tuning shops in England levering donations from the proprietors until we had enough money to secure his release. As time went by however, it all became too serious and no longer fun. I really enjoyed my time in saloon car racing, particularly the early days. people raced for the love of the sport back then and certainly didn't expect to make a fortune doing it."

Here is a pair of 1967 Abingdon Terry Hunter seats. They were first introduced for Timo in 1967 sometime after Monte. His ass must have been to big for the std Abingdon bucket seat by 1967 as he used a Recliner covered in the red and grey cord for the 67 Monte. They were also used in the gp6 cars in 1967 season as a driver and Nav seat. You can see a cigarette burn in the driver seat probably from Timo’s chain smoking. He also had a blow up lumber support that slipped in behind the padding.

Two more 67 Timo (Terry Hunter) seats survive in CRX91B sold to Aaltonen and JBL493D sold to Timo both cars were exported to Finland. CRX91B is still there and BMW now own JBL493D.

In the 1968 season Timo used the same seat but this time covered in Black cloth and vinyl to match the all black interior of the Mk2’s. They were in all Timo’s cars in 1968 season and finally went into RJB327F and YMO881H for the southern cross rally in Australia.

When my Ex Works car ORX77F was sold by Abingdon to Geoff Grundy it was sold with the pair of ‘67 Timo (Terry Hunter) Seats

They were great seats and hugged all the correct bits when pushing on, but being fibreglass they could flex at the top which took some getting use to.
I swopped them out for steel framed buckets.

The ones that I have come across in the past were the type that sold to the public. Out of the three of which I have found I still own two. Both black however the texture on the middle part of the seat differs. The third was a dark blue one. That was upholstered in the same way , albeit just a different colour.
