Looks like it's one of those that got designated Cooper S back in the day when DVLA were very obliging and just accepted what somebody wrote in the changes section, no questions asked. 40 years on there is obviously a lot of scope for fudging the issue as to whether genuine of not, particularly to the unsuspecting punter.
As said, at least the vendor is being honest and one assumes the previous seller was also. The original VIN number still associated with it being the obvious impediment to passing it off as a factory built original S.
Nicely done car and a lot of money probably put into it. Wonder how much premium it might add if people can convince themselves they are buying into a real Cooper S.

I liked the statement ( The vin number denotes the shell as being a 1965 Super Deluxe and I am told that early 1275 Cooper S models were derived from these).

Perhaps done by the same muppet who rebuilt my Mk2 LWB shell before I got it: First they fitted new floors and sills... then they fitted new oversills on top. Mis-reading the catalog diagram and thinking both were required, I suppose? Guess I should be glad it hasn't got three floors and two bulkheads

The project 1275S looks like it has a post 66 850 shell judging by the vinyl on the top dash rail and the door handles. Its also Tweed Grey whereas the car is Green on the DVLA database ...66Traveller wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 4:28 pmThat project 1275 S looks like a 998cc Cooper with a 120 speedo? Otherwise why go to the trouble of removing the front s disks so you can fit reverse rims....?Hipwell wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 5:39 pm Top end price for a 998.

Wouldn't a 1966 "S" with door handle safety bosses have had twin tanks as standard?
