Dropped it at the parcel shop yesterday about 2ish, FedEx collected it about 3.30ish. It arrived in Memphis Depot 7.30 this morning. Very impressive.... Cost was about £26.
Royal Mail are striking themselves out of business.
It really does beggar belief how the RM are conducting themselves - it seems just a short period of time since they were in financial trouble 7 years ago? and since they seem to have pulled themselves together and be back in business. How they even allowed themselves to swamped by all these new delivery firms that fill every street often blocking them with their vans...

I've an idea: Our service is needed less and less - electronic greetings cards, 'cheque in the post' is a non event, emails - so no letters, contract exchanges - now all on line. Less and less relevance! Let's go on strike.... good riddance to those who don't appear to have even an ounce of common sense.

We need business builders not business destroyers - craziest thing ever what the unions are doing....

We've basically gone back to the seventies - useless government, strikes.

Unlike 1979 though, there is no sign of a decent future government or a strong leader to grab the bull by the horns.

Perhaps it's about timing? we have to collectively become so disenchanted that it creates a will and a leader to be able to make things happen...

The 70's strikes were a nightmare of 3 day weeks, car manufacturers constantly closed down, the miners and the rubbish collection - we forget how awful it was! all it needs is a person of strong will, common sense and a clear sighted direction to turn things around - here's hoping :D

Sadly, there are no more Mrs Thatchers to wield a big stick.

The two main political parties no longer exist imo, just two sets of charlatans that are very far removed from their namesakes.

Btw, you are all cordially invited to say 'bollocks'.

Why do you need a Mrs T to wield a stick?
Whenever one of those chameleons comes a doorstepping, asking 'can I rely upon your support?'
Reply 'No, not until you start to represent me and my views, oh, and dont forget your mantra of - when we retain/return to power -is simply offensive. Remember you are asking to become a public servant, so be humble and grateful of the empowerment I give you!'

It worked last time.

Unions had too much power. Ted Heath asked the UK 'who runs Britain, us or the unions' in 1974 and lost. Mrs T was prepared for the same again, and won - to the huge cost of the North.

More than that, we need a govt that, as you rightly say, represents the interest of the majority. Immigration, mask wearing etc are just smokescreens.

This situation is absolutely unsustainable. These total CRETINS are striking themselves onto the dole queue!

For years I have been a great supporter of Royal Mail, I have defended them against a lot of accusations about how shit they are & have usually found their services to be both timely & reliable, particularly when compared to some courier companies.

However! The recent wave of strikes has TOTALLY CHANGED this perception. Since the beginning of December I have had over £500 worth of international parcels / envelopes just disappear into the black hole that is Royal Mail never to be seen again. This is despite me ONLY using tracked & signed for services, having the tracking details, packing & labelling everything as it should be.

There is little or no tracking info available on almost all these lost packages despite them having been posted a month or more ago. Add to this the practical impossibility of making a successful claim for a lost package when their requirement to prove value is so deliberately tricky.

I have refunded my customers for all their lost parcels myself to the tune of over £500 with little or no possibility of ever seeing any of this stuff ever again!

If there is a reliable, sensibly priced method of sending high value items abroad with even a 50/50 chance of them arriving at their destination, I for one would be delighted to hear about it.

This seems to of escaped the Unions, striking only works when there is not an alternative and you dont have competition.....I fear the good people that work in the Post Office will be thrown under the bus while the Unions and Government play a game of brinkmanship.....

It's almost as if the Gov't are wanting RM to run themselves into the ground so it can be sold off.

I'm still using them and Parcelforce, but I don't sell anything abroad.

FedEx have put a new tracked economy delivery service on Interparcel - about £5 for a small ish parcel (44/15/15) weighing 3 kilos......

We'll see how effective it is but I've dropped two of them off at a nearby drop-off shop on a Sunday.

Best one I had Mark was a parcel we sent to Wexford. Took two weeks to get to Dublin, then suddenly a note saying it was being returned to me…bizarre I thought so spent an age chasing it. Ten days later customer rings me up, delighted with his order he’d just received!! None of which was showing on their tracking ! Great he got it, but the incompetence from RM/ PF is mind blowing.

Not that I do a huge number of parcels, but the couple that have been lost/severely delayed have wiped out any gains.

Buyers just haven't had any patience over this period and as said, paying for 'tracking' whats the point when they don't allow you to!

Update: All parcels made it eventually and nobody is out of pocket thankfully!

To be fair the people whose parcels caught up in the pre Christmas RM fiasco were all fairly OK with the delays.

One for £140, one for £56 and one for £4.00

Can you guess who was the most whinging one of the three ??!!

Well.

The FedEx parcels arrived at their destination two days before the Parcelforce ones did.

Royal Mail seem to be slightly erratic at the moment.

Last Sunday I purchased some parts for one of the old Renault's from a man on a another forum I frequent. There was no rush, but the fellow duly sent them via Royal Mail 2nd Class on Monday afternoon, they arrived with me before 9am on Tuesday, which I thought to be very efficient indeed.

Then, on Wednesday I ordered some bits and bobs off an ebay seller to complete a job for a client, so therefore a little more urgent than bits of old Renault for a parts hoard, they were apparently posted with Royal Mail to arrive Friday, and I'm now (Saturday) still waiting - crossing my fingers for Monday now or my client is going to be miffed.

When sending stuff myself, I generally find Royal Mail very good for small stuff and it means I can also continue to support the tiny Post Office in our tiny village, a very important part of the community. I wouldn't touch them for anything larger than a medium parcel however and I've had many, many problems with ParcelForce over the years. My go-to's these days for larger items or overseas shipping have to be either DHL or more recently UPS who I have (touch wood) found excellent and reasonably priced, UPS to the States I find particularly good.

I've always found ParcelForce very good. I have a PO 30 seconds walk away so use them a lot.

But they are closed at 12 today and I have Ebay stuff to send. The open at 9am Monday and I've got stuff to do so FedEx now have three parcels dropped off at the newsagents up the road.

FedEx have seen the chaos and have moved in.
