Thanks your advice .. Her Indoors said i should not get any Black Snakes or a Rover Mini.. plus i hear that Toblerone have been reduced in size .. so off to buy a Bait Box & big pot of Poison .. if that does not work i will contract out the task to Peter & his Pads

Costa is correct about them crawling away, but they usually hide away when they crawl off to die. Out of sight, out of mind

We have only had one "stinker" and that was a rat about the size of a sausage dog

Or get a beagle. One of our beagles 'comet' was like a dog possessed with them. Especially on long country walks

I have found they love chocolate. A few traps laced with that should rid of the little sods. To deter them they also hate the smell of peppermint. I spray some strong peppermint essence around too.

We had a mouse problem a few years ago, used humane traps and went round stuffing metal gratings in any small gaps and vents in the walls which helped but the traps were not so succesful. I almost had a greater succesrate stalking one with a shoebox and lunging for it. After far too long I finally got rid of them.

When a few months ago I heard rustling in the garage from between the gardening supplies I quietly bought a poison bait box and tucked it away. Rustling stopped soon after, never saw or smelled the body even after the tropical heat we had this summer. The one that got trapped in a bucket a few years ago and went naturally however... That one stank to high heaven.

I have tried humane traps too.

Sadly, they were useless. Had to go old school on them in the end, albeit reluctantly.

A council pest controller told me the poison effectively dehydrates them, so they go off in search of water before finally keeling over - that's why the bodies aren't usually found decomposing in your garage.

From experience chocolate, got to be milk chocolate melted and stuck to the bait platform of a rat sized trap spring trap works well. I have also found that where there is rodent activity chocolate coated poison is far more attractive to them and well worth the effort - PPE recommended.

However, I still have a 20/25 mm hole in a rear corner of my car's head lining where a mouse had accessed the roof space and nested using chewed up sound deadening felt during a period when it was off the road stored in a barn at my then father-in-laws farm. When I discovered and dealt with it, I would say more fortunately for me, any residents were not at home, As homage, I have created a historical feature of a small fluffy toy mouse with it's head poking though into the car keeping an eye on proceedings.

Ha, ha, I tried one of those high pitched sqeaker things in my workshop. Don't know what it did to the Mice, but it drove Adam crazy!

I'm very animal friendly and sympathetic to the cause of our mistreated wildlife, especially as we humans continue to invade their territory, and that includes the cute and cuddly little mouse. Hey, as a youngster I sat on the floor in front of a black and white TV watching the Mickey Mouse Club. What more proof do you need?

But when the selfish, germy, plague and monkeypox carrying and disease infected rodents chewed through the insulation on the wiper motor wiring in my 1970 Cooper S leaving just the black connectors my latent mean-streak took over. No cheese for you, my friend. Instead a lethal dose of Brodifacoum to take back to your comfy nest and chew on. Hope you pass the story on to your litter to warn them before you spew up blood and die.

Now, feeling quite satisfied, I'll get back to repairing the wiper wiring.
