Where to advertise a car for sale

Post by Oneball »

As per the title really, where do you sell a car? I’ve got an ad here and on racecarsdirect. Anyone used Car and Classic, etc?

I have had most success with car & classic. Easy & cheap.

Only snag is that things seem to be very slow at the moment. Only very competitively stuff is moving.

Yep that car was cheap! Car & Classic does work very well under normal circumstances but currently you’re more likely to be badgered by buyers who dont show up or don't really have the money. Very tough market at the moment since interest rates went up.

I’ll pop your car up on my FB page again Tim, always worth a go.

Thanks Pete. I’ve dropped the price significantly since I first put it up for sale in March and I’ve only had 1 phone call, who never turned up.

If it’s still with you in Jan - Feb I’ll be very interested…however onto your question.

I recently sold via Collecting Cars and can’t speak highly enough of them, like you mine had been in the usual places for sale and nothing really..up on CC and lots of genuine interest and a sale at a price I was happy with. :)

Bit of an update;

RaceCarsDirect - one email in months
Car and Classic - 3 interested parties - one of which was a complete nut job!!
Pete’s FB - 3 interested parties - one agreed sale.

Yep it can be a real hassle, and yes you’ll get daft comments on Facebook no doubt but I found the most agro from Car & Classic. The favourite one nowadays is the “can you deliver it?” before they’ve even seen it or paid for it. People like to buy from their armchair now and even kick the tyres without leaving the house! . Such is modern life.

My favourite so far is… ‘can you drive it down to Torquay so I can look at it and if I like it I’ll buy it and give you a lift to the station’ !
Cheers

A few years ago when I was selling my Jag XJ6 I had two calls from a bloke in Ireland asking me to drive it to Liverpool docks so he have a gander at it. I politely declined :D

Any thoughts or recommendations when putting a Mini into a 'Bangers & Cash' style classic car auction house at the moment?
Mainly to avoid the hassle and agro usually involved with potential 'buyers' on Car & Classic or Facebook ads, who don't show up and/or don't really have the money. Is there more chance of achieving best price with least hassle via an auction even allowing for the fees involved?

I would auction a car these days. You'll likely get as much money or even more.

I hate the idea of giving big wads of cash to auction houses for doing very little at all but I agree with the above an auction is unfortunately by far the best way to sell unless you want mithering to death for two months sending photos all over the place to people who don’t know what they’re doing, don’t turn up when they say they will, just drink your coffee and disappear even if they do and then just low ball you later if you’re lucky.

Which auction house depends on where you’re located and how much commission you want to pay, there’s plenty to go at.
