Janspeed Rocker Cover - unusual?

Post by GraemeC »

Anyone come across one of these before? Genuine or some 80's tribute?
Not the prettiest thing to grace the top of your engine...

The cover itself is nice but the heater takeoff and grill buttons...not so much.
With a little bit of welding you'd have a nice cover.

I realised the breather was a later addition, but don't know how the filler cap (plate) should be held.

What's underneath the filler plate...how big is the hole?
Maybe the neck from another alloy cover could be pressed in.

It probably could, but that’s not how it was. I’m sure the plate is original - the casting of the cover matches it’s shape.

Is the top of it slanted like an old Minifin cover, then someone could have been creative and made it onto a Janspeed?
Have seen a couple of alloy rockercovers but when it comes to Janspeed, didn't that company at the best just fit a small plaque?
But I've been wrong before 😉

(Edited twice, how hard could it be to spell Minifin 😤)

It’s flat top, not slanted.
If it’s home made pits been fairy well done.

I’ll get some more photos tomorrow.

Where’s Jens when you need him - he was the Janspeed oracle wasn’t he?

I'm sure I saw these Rocker Covers, though with a more standard filler / cap on a turbo engine JanSpeed did, late 70's early 80's (I think).

I am certain that I have seen one of those before . . . it was exactly the same with that odd filler arangement.

Can't remember where though.

A couple more photos.
I'm not convinced the grille buttons are wrong - they're chromed which matches the plate.

The quality of the casting seems quite good, although no stamps or makers markings. The only bit that really lets it down is the quality of the Janspeed logo.

The logo does match this (early?) one, with the more upright A and rounded D (as opposed to the one on the well known rocker cover that Terence posted a pic of).
