MPI

Post by Darrenfive0 »

Hi,
Does anyone on the forum own or have access to a MEMS reader (I think ACR4) that can read an MPI ecu. I am based in the Peak District and can travel. It’s a long shot I know.

Cheers

Started running rough and continues to do so it now has a job to start. It does eventually but takes ages. It backfires on trying to start and has power dips through the gears. I’ve changed every sensor for new and replaced the coil pack leads and plugs. I’ve also replaced the injectors with second hand ones and it seems to be worse since I’ve done that. I’m all out of ideas and money now

Check that all the earth points on the car are excellent and also make sure the 2 multi plug connectors to the ECU have clean connections. Also check that no engine loom wires are chafing. Many years ago the AA identified that my loom was chafing against the clutch master cylinder and effected a temporary repair by adding rubber breather hose around the source. It's still there and I haven't had any problems from that since.

Haniminiman has probably hot the nail in the head. When I got my brand new RCSport5 in early 201, the Rover Cooper registrar in the MCR told me that the plug-in fixtures//connectors were the cause of MANY troubles, even back then! He suggested unplugging them, one at a time, smothering each part in silicon grease and plugging them back together. I do pull them apartr occasionally but never had a problem since. Except when I took it to s specialist about 'something electronic.....' and......... Anyway. I think that maestro Hanneyminiman has the answer.

I have laid mine up for 18 months over Covid and another 16 months to dats and it still fires first turn of the key. With a sealed fuel system, it shouldn't evaporate off I say

TMF has a technical forum section dedicated to the injection Minis which might also be worth searching through the topics for similar MPi issues:-

Thank you Peter.
What I didn't mention was the ECU problem I encountered on the way to the start of the 2006 Lombard Rally. Never did identify the source of the problem but car does run well now. Still clad with Lombard 2006 rally plates etc and the regulation Colway rally tyres and wheels for shows.
ps Spares now include ECUs, engine management loom and all sensors and the car was recommissioned this year and starts onn the button but I do disconnect the battery while in storage.
