London to Brighton 2023

Post by hanlminiman »

Anyone on here going?
As it might be the last one I thought - "why not?" Not camping or getting up before the newsagents. Hoping to turn up in North Cheam and join the end of the queue in EDM "aka EJM" to enjoy a leisurely drive down, park up and have a stroll along Madeira Drive. Will try not buy anything other than "chish & fips" with perhaps an ice cream. Then drive back.

I used to drive to Crystal Palace to watch the start but from last year as Cheam Park is just a 15 minute walk for me through the adjoining Nonsuch Park....I now visit on the Saturday afternoon to view and photo the Minis parking up for overnight camping, then return Sunday morning to see the start. Last year the 2000 Minis left Cheam Park much quicker compared to the slow moving queues usually seen at Crystal Palace, as there is much less traffic in the area and the main road the entrants emerge onto, allowing the LSMOC marshalls to keep things moving.

If the LSMOC could get permission to move the start from Cheam Park (which is inside the new outer London ULEZ zone) to the adjoining Nonsuch Park (which is outside the ULEZ zone as it comes under Surrey) then maybe the L to B Run could continue in 2024?

However I think the LSMOC is also finding the costs, administration and overheads for running the event each year are getting more and more difficult and time consuming for the club and the volunteers involved...
