I’m trying to work out the history of a Mk1 Mini 850 1964 with reg BUC 400B. Does anyone know this car? It is being claimed that the car once belonged to Princess Margaret, however the owner has no evidence to prove this.
The story is allegedly as follows. The car was sold to Princess Margaret in July 1964 via Park Lane Mini in London. When the car was sold to the next owner, the previous owner section of the logbook had been redacted (which is common with cars of interest to prevent people profiting of them). Now it becomes unclear as nobody has any proof of who owned the car. A subsequent owner applied to dvla for a list of previous owners, of which the first was again redacted.
I have spoken to a friend who happened to work as part of the royal security detail for 28 years. A contact of his worked as the head of security for Princess Margaret for many years, and he himself doesn’t recognise the car.
My questions to you are, does anyone recognise the car? If it didn’t belong to Princess Margaret, does anyone know who it did belong to? I’m sure this story hasn’t been fabricated out of nowhere, as talking to previous owners they all have the same story, with many trying but failing to find out the true history of the car.

As a teenager in the mid 1960s I think i remember that the BMC showroom was not in Park Lane but in Piccadilly (1964 &1965 Monte Mini victory displays). The MINI showroom is/was located in Park Lane in the 2000s. I viewed the MINI 4x4 in the Park Lane showroom soon after it was annonuced.
