Fletcher Alloy Radiator Fitment MK1 Austin 850 Mini

Post by twc641 »

Fan hitting (new) shroud
radiator hitting cowl necessary to trim and bend
also had to elongate holes in lower mount that bolts to the motor mount as to move it closer to the engine to give more clearance to the fan /shroud
any comments?

If your not too worried about orginality, remove the inner wing metal shroud to give more clearance, as was done on later Minis.

Inner wing radiator shroud removal:-

The biggest issue was The Original shroud mounted to the fletcher radiator Needed to be modified so that the fan would not hit the shroud
As well as the lower mount Needed to be repositioned
To be futher from to the engine so that the fan Would be Closer to the radiator Set inward enough so that it would not rub The shroud

If I understand what you're saying TWC, if the fan is touching the radiator or similar, then by removing the shroud from the left side inner wing (it serves absolutrely no purpose), then you can position the new radiator to any place that suits. A couple of longer bolts or spacers and a bit of thought will cure it. AND make life afterwards a whole lot easier, believe me
