it's a '65 Deluxe, very original (so far) and I have no real intention of ever going too far on it!

If you want the full 'mk1' experience you want a riveted frame with the billiard cue paint job

This one was cheap 'cause it was way up near Inverness, but anywhere from £150 - £250 seems to be the going rate for something decent

Dont Bother ..early Moultons are Bloody Horrible things to Ride .. only suitable for hanging on the garage wall or across the back of my Moke as it improves road holding.

I had a Moulton Mini in the 1960's (7/8ths scale, an early pre-Raleigh take-over one with the original Moulton front suspension) for my 10th birthday. It was fine to ride...so is it only the full size Moulton Mk1's that are quote 'horrible to ride' ?

I have been tempted several times recently to buy a full size 1960's Moulton or maybe rescue/restore a Moulton Mini....so is a Mk2 Moulton better to ride?

The Raleigh RSW 16 made from 1965 to 1974, as a response to the success of the Moulton Bicycle was pretty horrible to ride compared to the Moulton. Apparently the pre-production Raleigh bike was shown to Alex Moulton as early as 1964. Most Moulton fans despise the RSW and believe that it was responsible for the eventual demise of the classic Moulton bicycle as an inferior imitator, heavy, primitive and energy-sapping. The wheels, running fat tyres pumped up are the RSW's primitive suspension system. Sales figures show that Moulton bicycles were selling well throughout the first half of 1965, then sales fell off a cliff as soon as the cheaper RSW appeared...Moulton countered with the 7/8ths scale version of their bike, the Mini, in 1966 and this was also successful for many years. However if you find an RSW in reasonable condition you should save it, as there are not that many of them left and red Raleigh RSW's were featured as transport in The Village for "The Prisoner" TV series in 1967....as well as the Mini Mokes!
