Moke advice.
I'm considering going to look at a Moke on eBay, not too far from me.
I was just wondering if there are any alarm bells?
The only thing of concern so far is that when you check the tax status it says it is an 'Austin' rather than a moke, and it has a Morris steering wheel.
Cheers

Re: Moke advice.
That looks nice!
I have had a couple of Mokes, one was a bad one that received a lot of welding, the other (my current one) is a decent solid job, not mint but OK.
Like Mini's the thing to look out for is RUST, anywhere obvious is a good start, rear subframe etc. but pay particular attention to the back of the bins that run down either side. There is a very nasty triangular void back there that runs down the full length of both sides. This is a notorious rust trap & can be very tricky to deal with without a lot of work.
Because of the construction, using big wide seams they are prone to rusty box tops too.
If the one you are looking at seems fairly solid then I would say go for it. they are great fun, I use mine most of all my cars. But do get a ride in it first as they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
I don't think that the "issues" on the log book are too worrying, mine doesn't say Moke either. It just says Morris 2 axle Rigid body. I queried this with the DVLA and they said that they didn't have a choice of Moke & they were happy to leave it as it is.
If you have any specific questions, drop me a line by PM.

Hi Ed,
You could try for a rust free Portuguese one.
Hang on, it's electric

Re: Moke advice.
I had a battle with the DVLA re my Mokes V5c ,.. i wanted to get it correct to what the Heritage Cert showed which is .. Make = "Austin" .Type= "Mini Moke " DVLA sorted just one change at a time we posted back & forth ..why the DVLA would not do all the changes at same time as they had the Heritage Cert i have no idea .. my final push was to stick "yellow post it notes" on the V5c in the correct place then returning my Moke V5c to DVLA for changes & it worked .. Except despite all my other attempts the DVLA still V5c insists my Moke is a "5 door" .. perhaps i should fit a hard top

Re: Moke advice.
Most of mine normally say 4x4 or estate on the logbook.
I think they use the drop boxes available on the computer.
As long as the numbers are correct I’ve never worried..

Re: Moke advice.
As previously said, most Mokes are recorded on the V5c ad something other than Moke, I have seen 2 axle rigid body, convertible, estate and even saloon on geniune Mokes, even my ex factory Moke didn't have Moke on the logbook

Re: Moke advice.
We get the same issue here in NZ. My MOKE is registered as a Leyland CV, whatever the heck that's supposed to mean!

Re: Moke advice.
Be glad you can even get Leyland, Austin or Morris on the rego...
Here in Massachusetts the RMV databases were ‘normalized’ and my Morris Mini is listed as “AuHe MINI” on the registration and title.
An unlikely combination of Austin-Healey and [BMW] MINI !

Re: Moke advice.
Like a friend with a dead Sprite and a recently recovered Mini... and only a single title certificate.
Et voila... an Austin Healey Sedan....
Cheers, Ian

Re: Moke advice.
My local transport authorities have my Moke down as a 5 seater. I guess they meant one in the driver's seat and four in the passenger seat, anything else would be dangerous.
