Steering Lock - NEIMANTEX 03
NEIMANTEX 03
Does anyone know what this fits ?
It is NOS and I bought it years ago thinking it might fit my 1972 1300, but I have just found out today that it doesn't.
(my car has a NEIMANTEX 01 13H756-6)

It probably will fit but you'll have to modify the steering column to take it.
The saddle part of the clamp was usually secured by two sacrificial shear bolts that would shear off once they were tightened up. Making removal of the lock a bit more difficult to remove

" .... secured by two sacrificial shear bolts "
That has demystified that for me, I did wonder why the lock on my column appeared to be riveted on.
It isn't, what I am seeing are the remains of sheared off bolt heads. (I will put a picture up of this later - might be useful for someone)
Also just to be clear, I only have the column out to do the top bush and lower felt, the existing lock is fine, but it was only then that I realised the NOS part in my stash wasn't what I thought it was.
Update several hours later:
Photo of my column with NEIMANTEX 01 showing those shear bolts and the angle between lock barrel and column shaft at 90 degrees, unlike NEIMANTEX 03. The loom plug is also different, but the wiring is the same.

You can unscrew the sheared-off sacrificial bolts by cutting a slot across the sheared-off head and unscrewing with a screwdriver.
The trouble with the neiman-tex locks was that if you had one key, you could get it copied locally. But if you'd lost BOTH, the key code was not marked on the lock. And even if you sent the lock in, Nieiman Tex wouldn't supply new keys - only a new barrel that they'd fit and charge for.
The reason, so said, was that if anyone but them fiddled with the lock, there was a chance that it could engage randomly - with dire results.

Peter, do you reckon Bruce Gorton Auto Electrical would know what the NEIMANTEX 03 fits ?
I bet they did many years ago.
[note to self, maybe insert a wink wink emoji here, if such a thing exists, before submitting to prevent potential freak out]

Well, there's a blast from the past. I've known the now late Bruce Gorton for 50 years. He was a CMF RNZEME soldier with me in NZ in the late 60's. A maestro at vehicle electrics. I don't know whether son Dion carried on the business in Invercargill after Bruce passed on to the great electrical warehouse in the sky. But worth asking him - or Nieman-Tex

Ok, now you have motivated me to search for the NOS ado16 ignitionlock thats out the garage somewhere...
Would you be willing to do a straight swap?
The tough part is mines located here in Sweden.

I would, though the postage might kill the operation.Mini Mad Swede wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 12:55 am Ok, now you have motivated me to search for the NOS ado16 ignitionlock thats out the garage somewhere...
