Its been said that tyre particles and brake dust are just as bad and maybe even worse. What next ? Wooden wheels and brakes ? I am looking forward to Hydrogen powered cars, they will be slower but that is no bad thing, just means less speeding fines for us! Also now the Government are going to lose so much revenue from Oil taxes, soon we will be paying road tax by the mile we use.
There is a thought !
Could be, but again the "man" with the big wallet can keep on driving as much as the like, there must be something else to think about.

What a great thread, this topic has been annoying the beejesus out of me for ages....

There's not a much better way to understand how development of the ITC has been rapid and on going than marshalling for a couple of hours at Beaulieu this morning! Minis from the past 60 years could be smelled by their respective 6 decades of development, the early cars smokey, oiley and yes smelly... the rover minis were noticeably less toxic and the BMW minis were almost so good one could imagine that in the future one might be attached to an exhaust pipe to receive a dose of oxygen!

Let the development engineers carry on the good work and until someone comes up with a 'gallon can of electricity' why destroy the brilliance of the ITC? it will surely go down in history as one of the greatest inventions ever - it is also lighter and makes great noises....

European (and a little more recently, Japanese) car makers are the best in the world at making small IC engines. The Americans excel in large ones. But over 100 years of development is now being thrown in the bin.
The Chinese don’t make great IC engines but boy can they churn out decent batteries and electric motors.
Chinese MG is already a significant player in the UK car market, BYD, ORA and many others are coming soon.
This, like many of the actions we are taking to tackle climate change, is likely to impoverish the West and strengthen China.

Ship with 3,000 cars in deadly fire off Dutch coast.
"A fire on a cargo ship carrying almost 3,000 cars off the coast of the Dutch island of Ameland has left one sailor dead and 22 others hurt.
A major salvage operation is in full swing in the North Sea. The fire on the vessel could reportedly burn for several days.
Crew members were treated for injuries including breathing problems and burns.
A Dutch coastguard spokesman said the fire was probably caused by one of 25 electric vehicles on board the ship.
This latest fire has also raised issues surrounding the risks of transporting electric vehicles.
Last year a cargo ship carrying 4,000 luxury cars caught fire and sank off the Azores. Lithium-ion batteries in the cars caught fire on board the Felicity Ace. Although water was ineffective in putting out the fire, firefighters eventually brought it under control before the ship went down while being towed."

I’m sick of this bollocks about electric vehicles and their carbon footprint
1 ship transporting 5000 MGs from China puts out more pollution than all the cars in th UK does in a year
So divide UK car emissions by 5000 and add it to each car’s carbon footprint
Why would you buy anything from China
Are you people out there F,,,ching stupid ?

The other day I was watching BBC's 'Inside The Factory' series on the manufacture of Electric London Double-Decker Buses at the Plaxton Factory in Scarborough. Sad to see the eight-tonne electric chassis arrives in Scarborough from China complete with wheels, suspension, drivers seat, dashboard, electric motor and all batteries already fitted and connected. Each Chinese Bus chassis can just be driven into the factory where it then begins its journey on the 262-metre-long assembly line, where 535 people work to build the bus body onto the Chinese chassis....

The diesel chassis that were built in Leeds used to be driven down the A64 as bear chassis on their way to Plaxtons. The drivers wore WW2 tank suits & goggles, was always a sight to see.

Just heard about a "company" electric car issued to an employee of an Estate Agent employee which costs at least £30 every other day to charge to commute to his place of work. No charge facilities available at his home due to location so only public facilities available.

In the end this isn’t this how EVs normally charge , just in this case, without all the overhead cabling in between ?
