Has anyone else been sucked into the nightmare vortex of confusion with blocking DPF filters? I’m 6 months in, on my third garage now, £2500 spent and still having issues trying to solve the nightmare. Glow plugs, DPF, sensor, all changed, oil of course, and once again back in limp mode. Every mechanic I talk to about this suddenly breaks into a sweat so I’m convinced it’s a nationwide pandemic of particulate issues.

Used to tow with the work Transit, the pre Euro 6 generation which whilst towed great is an absolute pile of shit mechanically and has cost me a bomb in under bonnet repairs compared to the really old transits which were bomb proof. Wouldn’t touch another.
The AA replaced a fleet of T5's and Vivaros with them and they're generally been a disaster. My friends's Network Rail example set its alternator on fire and on another, both the engine and gearbox failed spectacularly within 25,000 miles. As well as having catastrophic reliability I find them painfully uncomfortable. I cannot drive one for more than an hour.
Engine failures are generally major blow ups. Bosch are blaming Ford and Ford are blaming Bosch saying the injector pattern is wrong. The also snap door hinges and Ford still haven't addressed the security problem - prise off the plastic door lock trim, twist the drivers door lock with Stillsons and the whole van unlocks.

You can get stainless steel lock guards but it's a poor show.

God help you.
I can't find anyone either that can fully explain the damn things. My dpf has, er, had diarrhea and is empty.

Should be a simple case of a few sensors telling the ecu to do it's magic when needed. If you can get it checked out, find out the actual running temperature now matter what the dash says, there's also a vaporiser that will inject diesel into the exhaust. These guys seem to test the injector pump via the diagnostics, and yes that might say that the pump is working, but if the nozzle is blocked it won't inject anything.
They're a bloody nightmare

On going issues with a Transit, our local guy looks almost scared when we take it in again …

My simple take on it, is they did a quick fix to get through emissions, which seems nothing more than a filter inside the exhaust which they made too fine - so it just blocks up.

Regeneration dosent seem to work much or at all, we were told that driving carefully (economically) would help cause it, so we should thrash it occasionally for long periods , which is of course not great for emissions, all a bit self defeating

Sorry, but no magical fix, would love to find one as well….

Yep short journeys will f*ck it for sure. Wrong oil, you name it, clearly diagnostic tools can also be more of a hinderence than a help. Bit like a SatNav getting you lost. It happens and these regen systems are costing the nation a fekin fortune!

“Buy diesel” they said.
