Re: Work vans
if you go for the Custom 2.0 make sure its had a belt replacement, theres plenty of horror stories involving belt failures.
The belt runs in the oil and (my take on it) is that lots of short journeys dilutes / pollutes the oil increasing belt wear and some can then fail... Whereas the thousands of vans that get regular workouts on longer trips don't have the issues.
My colleague has had 7/ 8? H1/L2 crewcab transit vans with very little issues, they are on 3 year 120 thousand mile leases.
Mine is the Mild hybrid model, and tbh, i cant see it being better than the non hybrid 130bhp model, the fuel consumption isn't that much different, and was downgraded significantly officially between me placing the order and the van arriving!!
All of the other guys at work who have chosen vans as their work vehicle now have Transit Customs in one flavour or another.

Re: Work vans
Had a T5 transporter LWB - really good to tow with , van ended up on its roof after trying to get through a stone wall - no airbags went off, smacked my noggin in and that's it - wont ever have one again due to safety issues.
Now got a Ford transhit custom SWB - auto , hate fords but its a right nice van , far comfier than the VW and tows really well
Best ever tow vehicle was my Pajero Evo - 0-60 in 7ish secs with a loaded trailer and would overtake most dawdling oiks on the motorway without an issue
gonna be towing my mini to Blyton in a FIAT based motorhome so it'll probably blow up or set on fire on the way there

Re: Work vans
I followed your lead and bought a transit.
More quiet inside than the VW, more comfortable, less basic , way better heater.
Has a whole 108,000 miles less on the clock

I tow my mini and various other work trailers with my 2018 custom sport. Fantastic van, very comfy with plenty of pulling power. I couldn't be more pleased with it, I bought it new and its just turned 80k miles

Re: Work vans
Depends on how much room you need.
I've got an electrician friend who runs a fleet of Berlingos after a VW Caddy misadventure - the VWs had dreadful fuel consumption and didn't have the internal room you'd expect.
I bought a Berlingo on the back of borrowing his for a weekend, and it's damned by faint praise - it does everything adequately. Nothing amazing, but nothing dreadful. It tows beautifully, though the 50+mpg drops to mid 40s with a load on. Big enough that we can go away for a race meeting with everything required.
When I was looking, brand snobbery was incredibly obvious - the identical Peugeot was £2000 more expensive, and the equally rebadged Vauxhall more expensive again.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Re: Work vans
Have a few mates in the garage trade who are being driven nuts by diesels, especially DPF failures (just happened to me on my tranny) and AdBlue warnings which are a running joke in garages.

Yes I've got a dpf issue, but at least I have a warranty!
Reading up on them, I think they might not be so complicated actually, but if one link in the chain lets it down it won't work.

Re: Work vans
On going DPF issue with our 2014 transit RWD (last of old shape) …….secret is to drive it hard occasionally….apparently.
Filter just blocks up………regen is a fantasy, looks like they just added more filtering, as a very basic fix to tick the emissions box….without any thought of what will happen down the line.
Drove a 72 plate transit the other day, fantastic to drive, only problem was it was very hard to keep below the speed limit on the motorway,……not like a van at all
