London to Bath in a MK II Jaguar in 1963

Post by mab01uk »

"A Journey from Castrol House in Marylebone Road London, to the City of Bath in a MKII Jaguar in 1963. Advanced motorist George Eyles takes us through London, out over the Hammersmith Flyover (an area which has really changed a lot) and follows the A4 West onto Reading and a newly built section of the M4. Later he passes through Newbury, Hungerford, Chippenham, Malborough, Calne, and ends at Bath. It is fascinating to see how all these towns and roads looked back then."

Plus plenty of Mk1 Minis, Elf/Hornets and Mini Vans to spot on the way!

Funny how we tend to think that driving standards have fallen in recent times. Looking back at the dire standards of the 60's as shown on this film I'd say they've improved somewhat. Not sure George Eyles' use of the horn on the Motorway was appropriate so no wonder the Rapier driver gave him the V

There's a follow up video of someone doing the same route in a Mk2 Jag in 2018 - interested to see how the roads have and have not changed over the past fifty/sixty years.
