Daimler Dart discovered...
"A Daimler Dart SP250 which has been discovered in an old garage in Bournemouth and needing total restoration is expected to sell for £10,000 in the Charterhouse specialist auction of vintage and classic cars on Thursday 3rd March.
“It was the phone call you dream of as an auctioneer with the client saying her father had passed away and there was an old sports car in the garage she needed help with.” Commented Richard Bromell. “Having arranged a convenient date and time to meet I was not disappointed when the garage doors were opened to reveal the Daimler Dart.”
The Daimler Dart SP250, which dates to around 1960, has been tucked away in its garage since 1974. It is understood by the family to have been bought by the deceased owner in the early 1960’s. It was used as every day transport and even brought new born children home from Bournemouth Hospital despite being just a two seater.
With the family home now cleared, the Daimler has been dragged out of its resting place after 48 years. Although the garage was in pretty poor condition it managed to protect the Daimler from the elements and the car has remained largely intact.
The Daimler Dart was launched at the New York Motor Show in 1959 where it was unofficially dubbed the ugliest car in the show. Fitted with a 2.5 litre V8 engine and a fibreglass body it had a tested top speed of 123mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.9 seconds when new."

Affectionately known as 'a bottom feeder', they really are awkward looking things.
Still, If nothing else it's got the manual box, quite a rarity on the 250 engine, so it might be able to be used to improve a Daimler V8 250

Re: Daimler Dart discovered...
I've always really liked the look of the Dart/SP250. A customer had one when I first started working in a garage and the sight (and sound!) of it made me want one
. Never owned one - although I did later own a Daimler 250V8 saloon. Would I want to purchase that one for £10,000? No, I wouldn't
I can see a great deal of pain and expense to go through there
The owner was plainly a bit of an enthusiast wasn't he!

Interested to see the Vickers Armstrong Hurn car club badge, I have one, my father being the founding chairman in about 1957.

Re: Daimler Dart discovered...
The body is an ugly duckling in most peoples eyes: and the chassis is renowned for flexing . But the engine a Edward Turner design whom I think most motor bike members will know was a true great. Drag racer Russ Carpenter extracted more than 1000hp!! BL told him if he went over 200 it would blow up...
When Jaguar bought Daimler of course having created the worlds best 6 cylinder Turners v8s were very much "not made here" Shame as the 4.5 litre in an etype a real cobra eater.
