Post by mab01uk »

Winter’s coming, but Keith’s been putting some miles on his Austin 1300…

I had BVF688J, a Bedouin Mini 850 - that was as rotten as a pear in 1987.

My first car was VUO688J, an Aqua Austin 1300 in 1982. It was free.

The 1300 gets some attention...
"As soon as I set eyes on it, I can’t help but smile. It’s a reminder of simpler times, when cars could be 12ft long and still accommodate a family, while travelling along a British A-road at 60mph was something to savour, not endure. The Limeflower paint isn’t perfect, and if the sun’s not out, it looks quite dour and muddy, but it really doesn’t subtract from the undoubted rightness of the design. I love it."

At the risk of seeming a bit of a braggart, I did this trip a few years ago

1660 miles. It was faultless. Just needed petrol and oil and richening up one flat to get rid of the slight miss on hot day long uphill pulls.
