Moulton Bike tec question

Post by Polarsilver »

Restoring 1965 year Moulton F Frame Bike and the rear Rubber suspension pad has separated from its steel bonded mounting plate .. This Part is not available new or used & the Molton Guru has departed .. so i need to re-bond this oblong Rubber Block back onto its original Steel mounting Plate ..until a nos pad turns up somewhere.. Question what type Glue would be suitable when re-making a Rubber to Steel Bonding ?
When the Bike is back in action this Rubber Pad rear suspension block is working in compression & shear.. so i suspect a 56 year old rubber component re=bond to its original steel plate will not be very good or reliable .. but got to try something any suggestions. ?

Something like Tiger Seal or Sikkaflex will work perfectly. Very similar to the windscreen bonding stuff suggested above.

I would go with tiger seal, its incredible stuff!
I restored a 64 Moulton several years ago, have the parts for another in my workshop, I will have a look if the rubber block is still there.
I'd be happy to sell it to you.
One think to bear in mind its to make sure you weld in a stiffener to the rear trailing arm, they are very weak on the earlier bikes.

(Available from Wickes and Toolstation).

I sell both CT1 & Tigerseal.

I'd certainly use Tigerseal over CT1 on that job.
